What is black seed oil?

The so-called real black cumin from the Nigella sativa plant comes from the buttercup family and grows in Southwest Asia, North Africa and South Europe. Black cumin is not related to caraway or cumin. The oil is usually obtained from the black cumin seeds by pressing.

It has been used for skin and hair as well as for various medical applications by indigenous peoples, among others , for 2000 years . It is important to note that there are both essential and fatty black seed oils . The fatty, also called native oil, contains significantly more health-promoting substances and should therefore always be preferred to the essential oil.

Delicious recipes with black seed oil

Below are 3 recipes with black seed oil . They all have one thing in common: Only natural and mostly fresh ingredients are used that contain a concentrated load of micronutrients. In addition, they are all vegan.

Important: If you use black seed oil for cooking, you should always add it to the food that has already cooled down and under no circumstances cook it. Excessive heating can damage valuable components and, in the worst case, even become harmful.

Hence our tip: Garnish your food right before serving, when it has already reached a temperature that is suitable for consumption. Or use the oil for cold dishes as in the first recipe below, our probiotic bowl.

Probiotic superbowl – a power pack for your intestinal inhabitants

The special thing about our first recipe: It contains raw Brussels sprouts. To this day the rumor still exists that this is poisonous or difficult to digest when uncooked. But that’s not true – it is ideal as a valuable ingredient for various salads and bowls . As long as you don’t overdo it with the amount, the Brussels sprouts shouldn’t cause any problems raw. This is especially true if you can digest Brussels sprouts well cooked.

Brussels sprouts are healthy and taste good with black seed oil. Give it a try!

However, if you have irritable bowel syndrome or frequent digestive problems , you should generally be careful with cabbage. You’d rather cook it well or replace it with other ingredients such as cooked zucchini.

Our recipe also includes kimchi : a preparation from Korean cuisine made from fermented vegetables that is comparable to sauerkraut. You can get kimchi in well-stocked supermarkets, organic markets or you can even make it yourself . You can find plenty of instructions on how to do this on the Internet.

Kimchi is rich in probiotic bacteria that are beneficial for your microbiome . Kimchi also contains many important vitamins and minerals. If you don’t have kimchi ready, you can replace it with sauerkraut.

  • A handful of grated red cabbage
  • 2 large carrots, cut into fine strips

  6. Tip: If you still have a few seeds such as pumpkin or sunflower seeds at home, you can use them as a topping.
  7. The meal is complete if you add two tablespoons of cooked and cooled rice. The rice not only makes you full, but cooked and cooled again it is a particularly good source of food for your good intestinal bacteria. This is due to the so-called inert carbohydrates that are formed when the rice cools down. These carbohydrates are not only good for your intestinal bacteria, but are also good for your figure, as they have 40% fewer calories than rice that has not cooled down.
